Freecycle FTW!

what a cash cow!!!!!!!!!
Oh eep, nah, we only take freecycle stuff that we would use. And give away stuff we don't use anymore. It's kinda one of the ways we try to be a bit greener.

For instance the Nikon lense is going back on freecycle to another needy photographer since I am a Canon girl :)

To try to make a profit off of freecycle is kinda like breaking one of the commandments hehe.
[this is good]
Never heard of such a thing as you;ve described as being 'freecycle', sounds interesting. Well, and it sounds like the kind of thing that gives the IRS nightmares about. Hahaha! They still haven't come to terms with bartering...go figure! Its a wonderful find, have no idea what a ring flash might set a person back, but I've picked up the occassional hint here and there. It is a surprise to learn that you still shoot with film. And now you might cut down on the cost by developing your own pictures? Wooot!!!! That's the Ticket, as they say! So happy for you :-)

Sorry to comment twice...was wondering, are the two items related? The lens and the ring flash? Is it a mac lens?
Hey Raymond!

Freecycle is a play off of recycle, there is a yahoo or equivalent site for every neighborhood. Just check your yahoo groups, you would be surprised what you can find! It gives items a new life instead of going to the dump where so many people think of as the place to send un-used items in America now. I hate that we live in such a throw away society!

Yes, I still shoot with 35mm believe it or not, there is just a certain satisfaction that I get from taking a pic of something and catching the beauty without needing editing. Being able to develop my own film again would really make it more worth while for me. I used to love the smell of the dark room, just knowing that a photo that I took was developed and printed all by me.

The macro ring actually connects to the end of the lense, while there is a power cord and a power supply that sits on the hotshoe and activates the strobe. You know how when you see a model and she has that realy pretty ring of light in her eyes? That is from using this light, and as for macro photography use, it is most needed indeed. With being so close with most macro photography you lose most of your light source. This makes up for it by surrounding the subject with an even light source.
Mine is similiar to this in appearance, but not name, http://www.rugift.com/images/macro-ring-flash-canon_big.jpg. I was going to build my own once we moved, I found some awesome DIY directions for them, they are very easy to make! This is one less thing I have to DIY now :D
Was checking out your goodies. That lens looks as if its a macro lens, hard to tell, but min focusing distance seems to be about 12". So that's what, a 60mm, no, maybe an 80mm macro lens? But I can't remember if thier is an 80mm micro... .Well, I really can't tell...but if it were a 105mm lens, I would ask for it. If it isn't a macro lens it is a good lens range for portature. Those hoods are same as what I use on my 70-300, HB-15. Can't see the other, but the HB-15 is 62mm. Can't believe you got the timers for the darkroom stuff!!!! Bulb looks like its seen better days, but that's sorta normal. Mixers, reels, seperate paddles, geez girl, you scored, BIG time! Hahaha I just noticed the thermometer! Did ya get an enlarger as well? I like that easel, if you ever go to a larger format...haha! Is that bag going to be too small? Your Canon is pretty serious you know. Well, I suppose you do, haha! Those filters are expensive girl, you know that don't ya? I mean individually they aren't but I count about six or seven filters!!!!Wooot! And a CP? That's an easy 50 bucks there...Yeah, you scored! [[[P]]] The ring flash---before you attach it to your camera make sure (please) you check (google) that it is compatable to your Canon. The electronics are critical, they have to match. Failure to take a moment and check might be disasterous. Or so I've read. I know you are probably having a blast right now playing with your goodies, wishing you the best, as always :-)
Could you like post a pic of that lens, I mean if you have time, or just a frontal and I'll look up the specs. I mean if you wanna. :-)
that is quite awesome!
no no, by cash cow, I didn't mean literally, rather metaphorically. sorry. my bad. i should've written that more clearly ... or used another phrase ... like you won the lottery!
I am posting pics of the lens for ya Raymond, if you can use it I will most definitely send it to ya! I hope it is a fit for your camera!

But yeah, that is about the mother load ain't it? You remember by far much much more then I do about developing stuffz lol.. I have not stepped foot in a dark room in about 25 years. Gonna have to sign up for some refresher courses or something hehe. But really looking forward to it. No enlarger yet, but I am getting a hold of some family who may have my Grandpa's old photography stuff, he ran a studio so I am crossing my fingers :). I do plan on moving to medium format soon as I can get a hold of one, I am actually going to a clearance at a photo lighting place out here on Monday, they also carry all sorts of photog stuff and I went thru their clearance list, so I am crossing my fingers and praying that there is going to be good stuff left!

As for the macro light, I have found that same info, about a possible power issue which could blow the camera, some say it is safe, some say it is not worth the risk. I am with the latter, so the macro flash will only be used with the 35 since that is what it was created to be used with.

After looking on Ebay last night I found that I could actually get a Canon macro flash for under $80 now so that is alot more feasable than it used to be!

So heading out to a farewell party now, if you can use the cam, send me a PM and I will get it out to you first thing Monday morning! :)... I really hope you can use it!!!
LOL... the one time I take something literally right? *grins*...

I do feel like I won the lottery though, it's kinda like a reward for repurposing/reusing stuff! ;)
Indeed it was/is Candy! :)
